The Brigantine Lighthouse was built by developers as a sales attraction in 1926. During the Depression, it was used as headquarters for the Brigantine Police Department and in the 1940s; it was used as a museum and a gift shop. As the lighthouse began to deteriorate, a group of volunteers refurbished the building inside and out in 1995. Today, it stands as the centerpiece of the island, landscaped and alight every night as an identifying symbol for the Island of Brigantine Beach.
