In 1923, a group of Atlantic County fisherman along with H. William Shaner founded the Absecon Angler’s Club in Margate, which is more informally known as the Margate Fishing Pier.They obtained the riparian rights to construct a 300 foot pier on the beach at Exeter Avenue. Along with the nearby jetty made of rocks, the private fishing pier is the most unique structure on Margate’s beaches.
